This formula can be applied to a myriad of different settings as well, which is why so many Die Hard knock-offs don’t always take place in skyscrapers. All you need is a hero in the wrong place at the wrong time to stand up to some terrorists and the rest writes itself. Not only is the movie a bona fide action masterpiece, but its simplistic formula has been replicated time and time again by shameless copycat films. If that’s really the case, then John McTiernan’s Die Hard must feel pretty darn good about itself. They say that imitation is the greatest form of flattery.
